The Washington Hatchet Baseball team split a pair of games on a long cold road trip to Jennings County Saturday. The Hatchets fell to Jennings County 6-0, but beat Brownstown Central 4-1. Hatchet baseball is now 2-4 on the season. The Hatchet Softball team fell yesterday at Mt Vernon 14-4. The Washington Softball team travels to North Daviess tonight with first pitch at 5:30 pm

25-year-old golfer Scottie Scheffler (SHEF-ler) won The Masters tournament on CBS Sports! This is his first major championship. Scottie is the world’s top-ranked golfer. He finished with a score of 10-under par. Tiger Woods finished the tournament with a disappointing 13-over par. Tiger was in a single-car crash 14 months ago that left him with a metal rod inserted into his tibia.
Josef Newgarden held off hard-charging Romain Grosjean (ROW-mahn GROW-zhawn) and Alex Palou to win IndyCar’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. It was Newgarden’s second-straight victory, and his first on the streets of Long Beach. The Team Penske star took the lead with 30 laps to go, and two laps later emerged from the pits just in front of Palou after his final stop. He held the lead in a fierce battle with Grosjean and the defending series champion Palou. Team Penske has captured all three events on the IndyCar schedule so far this season. The prestigious street race returned to its traditional April date for the first time since 2019. Polesitter Colton Herta led the first 28 laps, but crashed from third place with 30 laps to go. Will Power and Pato O’Ward rounded out the top five. Newgarden grabbed the points lead by five points over teammate Scott McLaughlin. IndyCar is off until May 1st, when the series heads to Barber Motorsports Park outside of Birmingham, Alabama.
Seiya Suzuki crushed his first Major League home run, but the Chicago Cubs fell to the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 at Wrigley Field. Munster native Mike Brosseau (BRAH-so) hit a pinch-hit home run in the seventh, which broke a 4-all tie and kept the Cubs from completing a three-game sweep. Tim Anderson returned from a two-game suspension and had three hits, and the Chicago White Sox dominated the Detroit Tigers 10-1. Andrew Vaughn drove in four, including a 3-run homer. The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-3 to earn a series split. Hunter Greene picked up the victory in his Major League debut. The Cleveland Guardians scored 10 runs over the first two innings, and beat the Kansas City Royals 17-3. The Pittsburgh Pirates handled the St. Louis Cardinals 9-4 at Busch Stadium.
The Indiana Pacers season came to a close with a 134-126 loss to the Brooklyn Nets Sunday afternoon. The Blue and Gold ended the season on a 10-game losing streak to finish 25-57, the fifth-worst record in the NBA. The Pacers trailed by 16 at halftime, and opened the third quarter on a 17-2 run to get within one. Indiana later tied the game at 91, but Brooklyn regained control with a 7-0 run. Oshae Brisset led the Pacers with 28 points, and Buddy Hield added 21. The Nets had four players score 20 or more, led by Kyrie Irving’s 35 points. Kevin Durant had 20 points, a career-high 16 assists, and 10 rebounds. Andre Drummond added 20 points and 13 rebounds, and made all nine field goal attempts, as Brooklyn shot 64 percent for the game. The Pacers will await their fate in the NBA Draft lottery, which will take place May 17th. Indiana has a 10.5 percent chance of landing the number one pick, and a just over a 42 percent chance of picking in the top four.
