Knox County is pressing ahead with raising local income taxes to pay for an ambulance and EMS provider to cover the whole county.
Up until this year, Knox County was one of only two counties in Indiana that did not pay for ambulance service.
The county’s current contract with Knox County EMS will run out in June with no plans to renew it.
County leaders passed a half-a-percent increase to income taxes on Monday which they say will go towards paying a third-party company to take over EMS duties.
Good Samaritan Hospital and AMR are the two suitors looking to land the gig.
