Washington’s City Council met Monday evening and approved a resolution authorizing an application for a grant to fund the city’s bus over the next year.
Mayor Dave Rhoads also announced the city has received a grant from INDOT to be combined with the City’s match to help with paving costs this year…
In other business, the Council also approved two ordinances with the final reading. The first ordinance resulted in a unique situation due to the illness of Council President Alan Brown. Yolonda Granger had requested that property owned by her family on NW 21st Street be rezoned to Residential multi-family (R-3).
Councilmen Compton, Emmons, and Lunsford voted “no”, while Councilmen Gress, Dahl, and Showalter voted “yes” resulting in a 3-3 tie. With a tie, the deciding vote was then cast by Mayor Rhoads who voted yes. The ordinance passed 4-3.
The second new ordinance brought requirements for the Park & Recreation Board more in line with state guidelines and passed 6-0.
Lastly, the council heard a report on changes the state has made regarding wastewater and storm water management. The city will need to change ordinances to bring Washington into compliance with the new state rules.
Mayor Rhoads commented that the new regulations will change the way the city does business.
