The Indianapolis Colts were balanced on offensive and defensive players. The Colts started their draft by adding wide receiver Alec Pierce from Cincinnati to their receiving corps. Pierce hauled in over fifty passes for Cincinnati last season and racked up over 800 yards. After the Pierce pick, the Colts took Virginia Tight End Jelani Woods at 73rd overall. They would then solidify their offensive line with Central Michigan tackle Bernhard Raimann. Raimann has been compared to NFL legend Joe Staley. Their first defensive player came at the 96th pick when they selected safety Nick Cross from Maryland. The Colts would wrap their draft up with three of their four day three picks being on the defensive side of the ball.
It was a big weekend for Indiana high school and Purdue alumni. In the first round, former West Lafayette Red Devils edge rusher George Karlaftis was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 30th pick. Karlaftis had twelve sacks during his time with the Boilermakers before declaring for the draft. Then after nearly seventy picks, the Cleveland Browns selected Warren Central alumnus David Bell. Bell racked up over 1,000 receiving yards for the second time in his three year career at Purdue last season. Near the very end of the draft at pick 260, the Los Angeles Chargers took Marian Fullback Zander Horvath.
