Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Sullivan County.
Crews were dispatched to an afternoon crash on Monday between a passenger vehicle and a semi on US 41 just north of State Road 48.
Police say preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 Mack semi driven by 64-year-old Thomas Selig of Rockville was traveling northbound on US 41 in the driving lane just north of State Road 48 with its emergency lights activated.
The emergency lights were activated due to the driver hauling hazardous materials.
Selig stated he was stopped at a railroad crossing, which he is required by law to do due to hazardous materials, when he felt an impact in the rear of his semi.
A 2014 Chevrolet was traveling northbound in the driving lane, directly behind the semi, and failed to observe that the truck had stopped, running into the rear.
The driver of the Chevrolet succumbed to injuries at the scene.
The Sullivan County Coroner’s Office has identified the individual as 29-year-old Dillion Killion of Terre Haute.
Several Sullivan County units were on scene following the crash.
