Rich Strike strikes it rich! The long shot horse, which had odds of 80-to-1 to win, actually won the Kentucky Derby. It was one of the longest-odds horses to ever win the big race. The horse, and its owners of course, collected a massive payout of 1-point-86 million dollars for the victory. Rick Dawson, owner of Rich Strike, found out his horse would be running in the Derby only 30 seconds before the Friday morning entry deadline. He says he still can’t believe his horse won the race.
It was a great day for Max Homa and his wife Lacey. The golf pro won the Wells Fargo Championship on Mother’s Day. But even more meaningful, he and his other half announced less than two weeks ago that they’re expecting a baby. This is Max’s fourth win on the PGA Tour and third in 15 months. His winnings? A cool 1-point-6 million dollars.
The Indiana Hoosiers could be heading to Las Vegas this winter. Mike Woodson’s squad is finalizing a deal with the Arizona Wildcats. The team announced the game would be set for December 10. Last season, IU made the NCAA tournament for the first time in five seasons, falling in the round of 64. Mike Woodson’s squad improved to their best record as well, winning 20+ games. For Arizona, Coach Tommy Lloyd was voted AP coach of the year after helping the Wildcats to a 33-4 record. Indiana also has a game set with the defending national champion the following week on December 17.
The Cincinnati Reds took 2 of 3 in a weekend series with the Pittsburgh Pirates winning 7 to 3 yesterday at Great American Ballpark.
The Dodgers beat the Cubs at the friendly confines 7 to 1.
The Giants squeaked out a narrow 4 to 3 win over the Redbirds in San Fran.
