The Indiana Pacers played their second Summer League game from Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon against the Sacramento Kings. Indiana fell 103-96 due to high level 3-point shooting and lottery pick leadership. No. 4 overall pick Keegan Murray had 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting for the Kings alongside 18 points from former Butler Bulldog Sean McDermott. For the Pacers, Terry Taylor led all scorers with 16 points. Pacers lottery pick Bennedict Mathurin had 15 points of his own but struggled from the field shooting just 6-of-16. The next look at the young Pacers team will come on Tuesday when they take on Jaden Ivey and the Detroit Pistons.
While the Indiana Pacers are the focus at Summer League, there are plenty of former Hoosier state players making an impact on other rosters. Former Butler Bulldog and current Sacramento King, Sean McDermott, assisted in beating the Pacers on Sunday scoring 18 points while going 7-of-9 from the field and knocking down three triples. There are five former Purdue Boilermakers participating in Summer League starting with 2022 lottery pick Jaden Ivey. Ivey only played five minutes in Detroit’s 105-99 on Saturday but made both of his field goal attempts and dished out two assists. Ivey’s teammates Sasha Stefanovic and Trevion Williams. Williams, playing for the Boston Celtics, had six points and six rebounds off the bench in an 88-78 loss on Saturday. Out of Notre Dame, guard Blake Wesley scored 22 points for the Spurs on Sunday to lead all San Antonio scorers.
The Cincinnati Reds put up a seven spot in the bottom of the third cruising to a 10-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. In Los Angeles, the Chicago Cubs jumped out to an early lead putting up five runs in the top of the first inning thanks to a PJ Higgins grand slam but Los Angeles clawed back and won 11-9. The White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 4-2 thanks to a timely error from Detroit left field Robbie Grossman. Albert Pujols hit his 684th home run on Sunday in St. Louis to help lift the Cardinals over the Phillies 4-3 and the Guardians could never get any offensive momentum in Kansas City losing to the royals 5-1.
