On Saturday, August 27th, Wabash Valley Progressives will hold the Fifth Annual Festival Latino at the Vincennes Riverwalk. Join us for an evening of live music, authentic Latino food, vendors, activities for kids, fireworks, and a traditional Mexican dance troupe performance. Children can take part in crafts, games, face painting, pinãtas, and superball drops. Festival Latino is free and open to the public.
Festival Latino kicks off at 4:00 p.m. and runs until 11:00 p.m. Mariachi Los Alegres, a mariachi band based in Louisville, starts the festivities. Returning this year, the Ballet Folklorico Mosaicos of Indianapolis shares the traditions and culture of Mexico. Grupo Bembé, a salsa band from Indianapolis, returns to the stage. For more information, visit wabashvalleyprogressives.org or facebook.
Festival Latino has its roots in a desire to welcome and recognize both the seasonal farmworkers and the local Latino residents for their contributions to our community. In past years, a portion of the proceeds from Festival Latino have been donated to not-for-profits serving Latinos including ALASI and RAICES.
