In volleyball action The Loogootee Lions won a hard fought 5 game match against a tough Linton squad on Tuesday night at Jack Butcher Arena, as heard on The Razor 94.5 with Greg Bateman and Mike Wagner on the call. Linton won Game 1 25-19. Loogootee came back to win Game 2, 25-22. Linton wins game 3 25-23, but the Lions show their grit to win game 4 25-21, and after being down 12-6 in game 5  claw back to win 16-14. The Lions are now 2 and 1, while Linton drops to 2 and 1.

Pike Central topped the North Daviess Cougars in 4 games. 25-20. 20-25. 25-20. 25-22. Next up for the Cougars, they travel to Clay City on Thursday.

The Barr Reeve Lady Vikings defeated the Vincennes Rivet Lady Patriots in Ralph Holscher gymnasium 3 games to 1 in a dominating victory and moved to 4 and 0 on the year. The Lady Vikings are back in action on Thursday night in Linton.

Congrats to Barr Reeve Volleyball player Dylan DeCoursey who has committed to play college volleyball next season at VU.  Congrats and good luck as you continue your playing career next season.

The Loogootee Boys Tennis Team shut out NE Dubois yesterday 5-0.

It’s that time again! The Washington Hatchet Girls Soccer team will be hosting a homecoming spaghetti dinner fundraiser to raise money for the team in between the parade and the big game on September 16. Tickets are $5! You can contact any high school or junior high player for tickets!!

And speaking of Hatchet Homecoming, the Hatchets will take on the Pike Central Chargers on September 16, 2022 at 7:00 pm, with the Homecoming Queen Crowning taking place before the Varsity game. The Homecoming Parade is back this year after a two-year break due to COVID, and will take place at 5:00 pm on Main Street in downtown Washington.  Anyone interested in participating in this year’s parade should fill out the form on the school’s website by Friday, September 9, 2022. The lineup for the parade will begin at 4:15.

 The clock has struck midnight on Hagerstown’s Cinderella run after a 10-0 loss on Tuesday in the Little League World Series that sent the regional champion players back home to Indiana. While Hoosiers hoped Hagerstown could bounce back after a tough loss, Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania continued their streak of staying alive with their back against the wall and delivered a decisive win, with the game being called early due to a 10-0 lead before the fifth inning. The heartbreaking loss came on the wings of the Hagerstown boys being only a single run away from earning their shot at the U.S. championship on Monday afternoon.

While calls continue for the Biden administration to bring WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner home from Russia, former NBA player Dennis Rodman says he’s taking matters into his own hands. In an interview on Sunday, the five-time NBA champion vowed to travel to Russia this week to seek the Houston native’s release. The former Chicago Bulls icon has some experience with unofficial international diplomacy. Rodman, who once called Vladimir Putin “cool” after a 2014 trip to Moscow, and has also made numerous trips to North Korea in the last decade, befriending leader Kim Jong-Un, and that connection may have also helped release American prisoner Kenneth Bae from North Korea in 2014.

Nick Saban is riding the Crimson Tide all the way to the bank. The legendary coach just signed a one-year contract extension with Alabama, which pushes his contract through the 2029 season and pays him more than 93 million dollars over the next eight years. This means he’s the highest-paid coach in college football. Before this, Georgia’s Kirby Smart was the top-paid coach after he signed a new deal in July. CBS Sports’ Chris Hassel tells us Alabama is favored to win it all this year.

Kevin Durant is sticking with the Nets. The power forward originally asked to be traded from the team, but it now appears the two have come to an agreement that he will stick with his four-year, 198-million dollar contract extension that kicks in this season. According to Caesars Sportsbook, Brooklyn’s odds to win the NBA championship moved to fourth best in the league. CBS Sports NBA Analyst Avery Johnson tells us we’ll have to wait to see how Kevin reacts if the Nets go on a losing streak during the season.
