In Volleyball on Monday, ND lost a tough match at North Knox. 22-25. 25-19. 25-22.12-15.The Cougars travel Tuesday to Mitchell.

North Daviess Cougar tennis now 8-0 with a win over Bedford north Lawrence. host NE Dubois tomorrow at 5 pm.

The Barr-Reeve Tennis team won their match vs. Paoli 4-1 on Monday night to go 7-1 on the season. The next match will be at Southridge on Tuesday night. Winners for the Vikings were Donnie Miller , Xavier Meiring beat Raygar Minton , doubles team Ethan Stoll & Isaac Madison, doubles team Kyle Graber & Brody Swartzentruber, and the Vikings JV got victories from Levi Lester & Dalton Knepp at 1 doubles and Kayden Knepp and Isaac Briggeman at 2 doubles. Austin Knepp also won in his singles spot.

Loogootee tennis at Heritage Hills was cancelled.

The Barr Reeve High School soccer team hosted their first varsity match and played in the memory of Viktor Svennson. against the NE Dubois Jeeps. Dominic Wilson scored both Viking goals, and the second came off an assist from Logan Gallagher. But in the end, the Jeeps got the win, 4-2. The Vikings return to their home turf this Friday evening against the Washington Catholic Cardinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm behind Antioch Church.

The Barr Reeve girls golf team shot a 188 in a triangular meet at windswept Country Oaks Monday evening, defeating  Washington and Pike Central, who both shot a 206. The match medalist was Olivia Emmons with a 42. Washington was led by Channey Clark with a 44 and Braylee Mills paced. Pike Central with a 50. Both the Lady Hatchets and the Lady Vikings are back in action on Thursday evening at Country Oaks.

Looking ahead to basketball, the IHSAA has set state tournament locations. In Class 3A boys basketball, Sectional 31, Heritage Hills, North Daviess, Pike Central, Princeton Community, Southridge, Vincennes Lincoln, and Washington will play at Southridge.

In Sectional 63 (Class A), Barr-Reeve, Loogootee, Orleans, Shoals, Springs Valley, Vincennes Rivet, and Washington Catholic will all return to Loogootee.

For the girls, in Class 3A, Washington will join Heritage Hills, Pike Central, Princeton, Lincoln, and Southridge at Princeton.

North Daviess will be in the 2A Eastern Greene Sectional, while Washington Catholic, Barr-Reeve, Rivet, Shoals, Loogootee, Orleans, and Springs Valley will all play in Springs Valley.

The Indianapolis Colts have already begun the hard work of reducing the roster from 81 players down to 53, a task that must be done by 4 p.m. today. Indianapolis has informed former Notre Dame quarterback Jack Coan that he’s being waived, according to a league source. In his preseason work, Coan completed 10 of 19 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown in his preseason work, but the rookie faced a loaded quarterback room. With Coan off of the roster, Indianapolis is down to three players at the game’s most important position: starter Matt Ryan, backup Nick Foles and second-year quarterback Sam Ehlinger. We may well have seen the best Little League team of all time this year as Hawaii powered its way to the 2022 Little League Baseball World Series title on Sunday afternoon, defeating Curacao 13-3 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Hawaii, representing the United States’ West region, had a dominant run in the 20-team tournament. The team from Honolulu Little League outscored opponents 60-5 and went 6-0 in the tournament.

A day after sitting out the Commanders’ preseason finale in anticipation of a big role this regular season, rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. was shot multiple times as the victim of an attempted robbery, according to NFL Media and NBC Sports Washington. A third-round draft pick out of Alabama this spring, Robinson is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries after an apparent carjacking attempt.. The 23-year-old Robinson is now hospitalized after at least two bullets struck his lower body during the attempted robbery, according to Tom Pelissero. His immediate on-field future is unclear but the Commanders front office has not ruled out a 22 season return.

After more than a month of fanfare, the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card described as  the “finest known example” of a 1952 Topps Mantle — has sold with Heritage Auctions for $12.6 million including buyer’s premium. It’s the most ever paid for any sports item, card or memorabilia. The previous record for a sports card was $7.25 million, set earlier this month by a Honus Wagner card.
