Bloomington police had to evacuate all of College Mall in response to a bomb threat made at Target.
Rama Asuri entered the Target off of E 3rd Street around 7:30 p.m. on Monday. He carried in backpacks and alerted some of the customers that he had a bomb.
Police arrived to help evacuate the store and found Asuri near the front, where he was arrested. Police went in to help employees evacuate the customers still in the store.
Police found two unattended backpacks in shopping carts, which prompted them to call in the Indiana State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal. That’s when mall security began to evacuate the rest of College Mall.
Three hours after the incident started, the EOD team found that there were no explosives in the bags and determined the scene to be safe.
Asuri was sent to the hospital for a prior wrist injury, then taken to the Monroe County Jail as he faces Terroristic Mischief and Intimidation charges.
