May is National Stroke Awareness Month. Good Samaritan is helping to prevent strokes by offering free screenings to the community. These screenings will be held on Tuesday, May 17, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Good Samaritan in the Charles C. Hedde, MD Health Education Center. Health officials say stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and up to 80% of them can be prevented. During the screening, attendees will visit multiple booths offering different tests. These tests include blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), lipid profile, and several others. Educators, registered nurses, and a dietician will also be offering valuable information and hand-outs describing the different ways to decrease the risk of stroke. Appointments are required for the screenings. Those interested in making an appointment can go online and register at gshvin.org/strokescreenings or call Community Health at (812)-885-8753.
